It doesn’t matter what kind of problem are country might be going through, a fabulous game of cricket brings all races, religions, colours and ethnicities together as one nation.
It is no different today! With the sadness, fear, uncertainty and helplessness created by the global Covid-19 pandemic, we are all looking for some respite, and this time it has come to us in the form of the Lanka Premier League 2020!
The LPL 2020, which is just a day away, will give our cricket loving nation an entire month of nerve wracking, adrenaline pumping cricket action, with both our local heroes as well as overseas favourites, not to mention new and aspiring talents from around the island, from Dondra to Point Pedro.
Some of the local favourites taking part in the LPL Sri Lanka 2020 are Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Isuru Udana, Upul Tharanga, Akila Dananjaya, Avishka Fernando and Suranga Lakmal. Some of the foreign favourites include the likes of Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, Irfan Pathan from India, Brendan Taylor from Zimbabwe, Dale Steyn from South Africa and Andre Russel from the West Indies.
Among this troupe of local and foreign cricketing heroes at LPL 2020, we also find some favourite young talents who have shown us what they can do during their school careers. One such player is Kalana Perera from S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, a powerful batsman as well as a bowler and fielder to be reckoned with. He is well known in the school circuit for taking out the best in the opposing teams at school tournaments, and was also a member of the National Under 19 Team. Another able young player participating in LPL Sri Lanka 2020 tournament is Duvindu Tillakaratne, son of one of our nation’s all-time greats, Hashan Tillakaratne, who made his debut in first-class cricket for Badureliya Sports Club in the 2016–17 Premier League Tournament. 20-year-old right-hand batsman Kavindu Nadeeshan from Dharmasoka College in Ambalangoda is also a young man to keep your eyes on during the LPL 2020.
The Lanka Premier League is the ideal place for selectors to keep an eye on rising young cricketing talents, and a good place for these youngsters to showcase their abilities and cricket acumen.
